Your guide to car finance as a student

Web 1920 – 1300x450

Whether it’s getting to lectures on time, doing the weekly shop, or making the drive home to see family, having your own car can make student life a lot more manageable. But lots of students aren’t sitting on a pile of cash to buy one outright. That’s where car finance could help.

At Car Finance 247, we know university brings enough new things to figure out without adding “how do I afford a car” to the list.

Can I actually get car finance as a student?

Yes, you could — being a student doesn’t automatically rule you out. Lenders just want to see that you can comfortably keep up with monthly payments, so they’ll look at things like your income, your job, your spending and your credit history.

How does it actually work?

You start with a quick online form telling us a bit about yourself, your income and how much you’d like to borrow. If you’re approved in principle, you’ll get a dedicated Account Manager who will talk you through your options and help you finance a car.

Hire Purchase (HP) — you pay off the car plus interest over an agreed term, and you own it outright at the end.

Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) — generally smaller monthly payments, but you’ll have a decision to make at the end: keep the car, trade it in, or hand it back.

Don’t forget the bigger picture

The finance payment is only part of the cost of running a car. Insurance, fuel, road tax, servicing, MOTs and parking can all add up too.

At Car Finance 247, we’re here to help you find an option that fits your circumstances — no judgement, no jargon, just straightforward help when you’re ready to hit the road.
